Yercaud is a hill station in Salem District, in Tamil Nadu, India. It located in the Shevaroys range of hills in the Eastern Ghats; the Yercaud hill area is called the Shevaroy Hills. It is situated at an altitude of 1515 metres (4970 ft) above sea level. Coffee and citrus fruits, most notably oranges, are grown in abundance apart from bananas, pears and jackfruit. Scenically, Yercaud is as enchanting and picturesque as the hill stations on the Western ghats and trekking here can be one of the most pleasurable ways to pass time.
Reach Salem and then it is 22 km uphill. Regular interval buses are available from salem central bus stand. Pay 22/- per person and just alight before the last bus stop at yercaud, near the lake most of the hotels are nearby from the lake. While returning better to get the buses from the starting stop at yercaud rather than the lake side stop as it is not easy to stand in the bus on the hilly road.
The nearest Airports Kamalapuram, Omalur [no service ] (30 km) Trichy (163 km), Banglore(230 km) and Coimbatore (190 km). All are connected to Chennai (Madras).
The nearest Railway station is Salem Junction[SA] (35 km).
Foot Hills to Yercaud Lake will be 22 k.m. in 40 min. There are 20 Hair-Pin Bends. There are good roads connecting Yercaud to various places in south via Salem. The road from Salem to Yercaud has plenty of lush greens on both sides of the road once the uphill climbing begins.
